Q: Can you please tell us about yourself?

A: My name is Ivona, I’m 25 years old and I live in a newly renovated bungalow in Northern Ireland. We moved in over a year ago. It seems like yesterday I was steaming the floral wallpaper from the ceilings while my make-up was sliding off my face. Not a great look! My husband Gary use to finish his work and straight away go and do work at our new house. Mostly until midnight. At that stage we were staying with my sister, we scraped by with only damaging one Curtain holder when our little boy used it as a football net. Sorry about that sis! While Gary was knocking down walls, Gary’s dad was tiling and painting doors.
I think that’s why our house feels more like a home because we know how much hard work was put in and we chose everything ourselves.

Q: Have you always had a passion for interior design?

A: My passion for interior developed before we received the keys to our new house. I knew I wanted to keep the house quite minimal. Every single wall in our house was painted white. I remember walking into the house after it was freshly painted… BASICALLY it was like walking into heaven. But we loved it and sometimes you have to go with your ideas rather than trying to impress others.

Q: Why did you decide to submit your image for the Stylist Competition?

A: I always browse through Cult Furniture‘s “new in“ section and fill my wish list. (Practically it‘s most of the website). I noticed the Stylist Competition come up and I didn‘t think twice about entering.

Q: How did you feel when you found out you won?

A: When the email came through I couldn’t believe it because I was up against incredible homes. I was so glad Cult Furniture team picked me to show others that you don’t have to own a million dollar house to show your home styling skills.

Q: Would you encourage others to enter the competition?

A: I would absolutely encourage others to enter the competition. Like I said before you don‘t need a huge house to take a picture of. It can be your favourite space that makes you happiest whether it‘s;your window seat, your office desk or your kitchen. For me it was our bedroom!

Q: Where you happy with the products you received during the 3 months? Which one was your favourite?

A: I fell in love with every single item that I received from Cult Furniture. The first item took me a second to choose because I was lusting over it for months. It was the rose gold leg Moda chair. I have to say it is one of my favourite items! I got it for my dressing table. The rose gold really stands out and is such a statement piece in the room. I use it everyday when I’m applying my make-up. I was a little big worried about destroying it but it wipes out without problem.

At the same time I equally adore the brass spider light in our kitchen. It was a very simple solution to adding more of an industrial feel to our kitchen. Of course for those who follow me on Instagram when we received the light it finally encouraged my husband to attempt making a concrete table. It worked out amazing! We sprayed the legs brass to match with the light to add a tiny amount of warmth.

Q: What are your plans for the future? Any other interior dreams?

A: We still have a long way to go to finish decorating the house. I believe there’s no point in buying furniture or items for the sake of it if you don’t truly love them! Because in the end you’ll just want to change it.
