The statement-making colour palette

The colours of sunshine. Yellow brings energy and optimism into an interior. This colour grabs attention and makes an impact. Especially when complemented, or contrasted, with the right colours. Symbolising warmth and openness, this tone makes us feel welcome and uplifts the atmosphere of a home instantly.

Yellow is also an immediate attention-grabber. In New York City, the iconic taxi cabs are purposefully painted yellow to stand out amongst the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle. Because of this, this bold colour should be used sparingly. Too much yellow can cause a loss of focus and overwhelm a room while too much orange can make it hard to relax.

Consider using yellow as an accent piece or subtly tone it down with greys. It also works in playful harmony when broken up with white. On the other hand, make a dramatic statement by contrasting with black.

Other sunset hues such as orange and cinnamon-like browns, complement yellow beautifully. On their own, these colours also create a welcoming and uplifting living space. Regardless of how they’re used, these bright tones create an overall positive vibe and are the perfect accent colours to highlight important parts of an interior.
