When you’re planning to revamp your home office, there are a lot of different things you can consider. Many people go for crisp white offices with colourful office supplies, but it is said that going for colourful walls could stimulate the senses and set the (get-to-work) mood.
One surefire way to find out what type of office you’d like to create, is to have a mood board (on Pinterest for example. Follow us if you’re there! 🙂 ) It will be easier to refine your style and know what types of furniture and accessories to go for, from our tips mentioned below. It’s time to get Pinning, I bet you’ll find it as addictive as we do.
Once you’ve created the rough outlines of your future office (and defined your preferred styles, colours) make sure to also think about your workflow before you start redesigning. Go through everything! When you have a clear view of the things you need you’ll be able to easily match all the other elements to your home office.
8 Tips to Create Your Perfect Home Office
Declutter. William Morris once said: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” With this in mind, throw out everything that is unnecessary, clutters your space or only collects dust! Another key to decluttering is having good storage solutions, such as a stunning Orson 3 drawer console desk.
Invest in a good, stylish office chair & table. These are the essentials of every home office…where the magic happens. You don’t need to choose a work surface that is labelled as a desk per se. Why not go for a small dining table that gives you plenty of space for laptops, office supplies and ALL the coffee! Small dining tables are also great for creating a shared workspace. We love these soft pad office chairs and in particular think this Gastro dining table would look great in an office to give an industrial touch.
Lighting is everything. Good lighting doesn’t only set the right mood, it can help you to adjust to the night. Choose from a hanging pendant above your desk, a floor lamp in the corner of the room or kick back with the most popular office light source; a stylish desk lamp to light up all those bright ideas!
Add a rug. Nothing warms up your home office more than a beautiful rug. It will give your workspace some personality and flair, as well as a cosy treat for the toes. We love this coral rug!
Bring outside in. Add some plant pots and greenify your space instantly. Not only does it give your office a fresh twist, it brings some much needed calm and serenity to your space.
Adorn your desk. Onto the fun part! We love desk accessories, but you’d want to avoid ones that only gather dust. Go for things that are either really, really pretty (such as this Antique Copper Vase) or stylish AND functional, like this Cullen Marble desk clock (and it’s on Sale!).
Lastly, create a space to relax. If you have a little floor space left, why not add in a sofa or lounge chair, so you can switch it up every now and then. Don’t forget to take time to relax! Move your books to your new home office (now doubling up as a small library) put your feet up and sink into our Penelope Lounge Chair in Sage green and lose yourself in a book. Or, take a quick power nap on your Bonnie 2 Seater!
Bottom line: create a space that inspires you, a space that encourages productivity, and a space that gives you all the comfort you need for a well balanced work life.
