Why do we celebrate Pride +
what does it mean?

Pride is a beautiful and positive celebration of the LGBTIQA+ community. Taking place in the month of June every year, it commemorates the Stonewall riots which took place in New York in 1969, these protests changed LGBTIQA+ rights forever.

Here in the UK it was still considered a crime to be gay until 1967, people regularly experienced violence and were shunned from society. The Stonewall riots were a landmark event in history which helped to fight homophobia and campaign for equal rights.

Pride is about coming together in love and solidarity to show how far gay rights have come. It’s about teaching tolerance, education and to continue moving forward with equality for all. Pride is about being proud of who you are, no matter who you love and how you identify.

How we at Cult continue to celebrate and support the LGBTIQA+ community?

Many LGBTIQA+ people have become wary of what is colloquially known as “rainbow capitalism”, where businesses start producing Pride-themed products while not actually supporting LGBTIQA+ people. Here at Cult we actively commit to the sincerity of our message to educate, celebrate and support through our own community and channels. Alongside all of our LQBTQ+ team members and customers we stand strong.

Look out for our incoming LGBTIQA+ features across our blog and social media platforms, which encourage education and celebration.
