Before picking your favourite sofa from the beautiful collection at Cult Furniture, it’s important to think about size. Our guide will help you choose the right sofa to ensure the delivery team will be able to get it through your doors, hallways, up the stairs and into your living room. Follow these steps and you’ll be good to go.
YOUR SOFA DIMENSIONS
To reduce the risk of damage, our sofas will be delivered in a box. The first thing you need to do is make a note of the ‘packaged dimensions’ of the chosen sofa, found in the measurements section under: Height, Width and Depth. Corner sofas will be delivered in separate boxes.
GET MEASURING IN YOUR HOME
Once you have the measurements of the packaged sofa, use them as your guideline and consider whether they will fit in the desired room. Keep in mind, don’t panic when the dimensions of the box seem too big to fit through your doors or hallways. Take a look at the dimensions of the product itself, as it might fit through without the packaging.
1. GETTING UP THE STAIRS
Stairs can often be a little tricky, so be sure you measure them at their narrowest point. If you have a landing, you’ll need to measure its width, depth and height, checking that these measurements are all larger than those of your furniture. Make sure the distance between any bannisters and the ceiling is greater than the packaged depth of your sofa at its most narrowest height.
2. GETTING THROUGH THE DOORS
Remember, there may be a few doors to get through before your sofa makes it to its forever spot. So, it’s important that you measure all the door frames. If the measurement is greater than the sofa’s packaged height, then your sofa will fit through perfectly.
However, if there is an obstruction behind your door and you cannot fully open it, measure the outer edge of the door to the inner edge of the door frame at its narrowest point. If it is not greater than your sofa’s height you can try Plan B.
In instances when a door is too narrow, our delivery team will attempt to carry the sofa through upright. For this, we’ll need you to measure the height of your doorway to make sure it’s greater than the sofa’s packaged width. Don’t forget to allow a little extra room.
3. FITTING IN A LIFT
Does your building have a lift that we’ll be able to use during the delivery? If there is, then you’ll need to measure the height and width when the door is open, as well as the depth of the lift to make sure it will fit inside. If the dimensions are greater than the width, height and depth of your sofa, then it’ll be a smooth process.
4. GOING THROUGH HALLWAYS
We don’t know how many hallways we’ll need to navigate through until your sofa is in the right room, but you can help us by measuring any areas the sofa will need to pass through, noting down their narrowest points. Don’t forget to take note of any obstructions, including radiators, shelving, skirting boards and light fixtures. If the width at the narrowest point is greater than the height of your sofa, then you’re fine.
5. THE BEST SPOT IN YOUR LIVING ROOM
Wherever you see your brand new sofa going, you need to make sure you have the right amount of space mapped out. How do you do this? It’s easy; stick masking tape down on your floor by using the exact measurements of the sofa. Remember, if it’s going to be placed near any doors then place it where the doors can still fully open. The legs on most of our sofas are removable, which will lower the height by 15-20cm.
