Free Furniture Collection
Our Partnership with the British Heart Foundation.
Free Furniture Collection with the British Heart Foundation.
For the past four years, we have teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to help reduce furniture waste and support life-changing cardiovascular research.
Every year in the UK, we throw away 1.6m to 22m tonnes of furniture - all in resellable, good condition - which could have been re-used, re-homed, sold, or donated. Sofas and armchairs make up a large chunk of this figure. It is estimated that the British Heart Foundation (BHF) saves 185,000 sofas and armchairs each year from entering the waste stream - that’s 54,000 tonnes otherwise going to waste. Your donations help BHF fund lifesaving research to tackle the world’s biggest killer, cardiovascular disease.
Why BHF?
Suppose you have made a purchase with Cult Furniture but need someone to pick up your old or existing furniture. Perhaps it can be picked up for free and recycled in a more eco-friendly way. We are here to offer you a hassle-free, sustainable, and charitable solution with BHF.
About the British Heart Foundation
British Heart Foundation is the nation’s biggest charity retailer with over 650 shops and stores UK-wide. Established in 1961, its mission is to power groundbreaking research to save and improve lives. The research funded by BHF has contributed to halving annual deaths from cardiovascular conditions, helping to improve heart attack survival rates, funding significant scientific breakthroughs, and providing patient support.
The Facts
According to the BHF shop survey, the most likely reasons for consumers binning their unwanted furniture instead of donating or recycling are…
Cult x BHF in Numbers
We have partnered with BHF for 4 years, from 2022 to present.
Since 2022, we have diverted over 14 tonnes from the waste stream and raised £71,221 in stock donations. It’s your donations that help reduce the number of items that end up in the waste stream each year and support the waste hierarchy.
Clothing-wise, over 711,000 tonnes are disposed of in general waste in the UK annually, according to wrap.ngo. BHF has a reuse and recycling rate of 97% for textiles. This February, Cult staff donated £200s worth of clothing as part of Heart Month 2026.
